課程概述 Course Description這門課程將著重在新興記憶體/儲存裝置技術上面，課程中會從系統層面去探討記憶體技術發展上所需要處理的材料特性、設計以及實作等各面向議題。這門課程討論的範疇將包含：(1)儲存裝置架構(如：disk drives, disk arrays, RAID, solid state drives, and NVM)；(2)檔案系統設計(如：log-structured file systems, distributed file systems)；(3)資料可用性(如：erasure coding techniques, data integrity protection)；(4)資料一致性(如：journaling techniques)；(5)資料壓縮技術(如：deduplication)；(6) Benchmarking (e.g., I/O metrics, benchmarking tools)。此外，根據當前研究趨勢，這門課也將探討最新的儲存體/記憶體應用技術等議題，特別是巨量資料管理的儲存效能及可靠度優化技術，以及Optane DC persistent memory優化技術。
This course aims to introduce important system-level research topics in the characteristics, designs and implementations of emerging memory devices. All topics which will be covered in this course include: (i) storage device organization (e.g., disk drives, disk arrays, RAID, solid state drives, and NVM), (ii) file system design (e.g., log-structured file systems, distributed file systems), (iii) data availability (e.g., erasure coding techniques, data integrity protection), (iv) data consistency (e.g., journaling techniques), (v) data compression (e.g., deduplication), (vi) benchmarking (e.g., I/O metrics, benchmarking tools), etc. Depending on the current research trends, this course also discusses the state-of-the-art applied storage topics, especially related to scalable and dependable huge data management and Optane DC persistent memory.
