課程概述 Course Description

本課程將著重於分析民主化、民主鞏固、以及其他形式的政體轉型等現象。自1970年代起,第三波民主化浪潮下世界上許多國家歷經民主轉型。然而,不同形式的非民主政權仍持續存在;其中許多「競爭性威權」,亦即雖舉辦多黨競爭的選舉,然而在人民自由權利與參政權上仍有相當限縮的國家,仍穩定維續。本課程將首先介紹此研究領域的主要概念與相關研究方法,接著將討論對於政體轉型的不同解釋;亦將探索民主與非民主的制度運作是否對於人民福祉造成影響。
This course focuses on the phenomena of democratization, democratic consolidation, and other forms of regime change. Since the early 1970s, the world has experienced the third wave of democratization. However, different types of non-democratic regimes, including “electoral autocracies”, which hold multiparty elections but fail to institute full liberal and political rights, still persist. The course will begin by providing an overview of the field and the relevant methods. We will then examine different explanations of regime transitions. We will also explore the effects of regime types on human welfare.
