課程概述 Course Description

透過分析歷史上曾經出現過扭轉人類心智的各種案例,了解這些與心理科學、科技應用的實踐和企圖背後相關的文化與社會脈絡。利用科學史和科技與社會的核心概念,藉由經典閱讀、電影欣賞和經驗分享,探討這些試圖違反天性的嘗試,背後究竟帶有什麼關於種族、性別、宗教和政治意識形態上的動機。
This course explores various cases of “mind-bending” attempts existing in the world’s modern history. From fleeting phenomena such as animal magnetism to legacy traditions such as brainwashing, these cases witnessed social and cultural contexts that shaped different psychological theories and practices. By examining academic works, news materials and fictional accounts, students are expected to analyze the racialized, gendered, religiously and politically prejudiced attempts behind these unusual attempts.
