課程概述 Course Description

The course aims to teach students the principles of technological analysis of ceramics. The approch was inspired by Andre Leroi-Gourhan's work and was developed in France by Valentine Roux and Marie-Agnes Courty (Courty & Roux 1995; Roux & Courty 1998; Roux 2011). It is based on ethnographic studies that have shown that ways of doing and techniques are socially inherited. Technological analysis focuses on techniques, ways of doing and tools used by the potters. The course will integrate lectures and practicals. Lectures aim at training students in the description and identification of ceramics' chaine operatoire (the term "chaine operatoire" refers to all the steps followed by the artisan(s) to make a pottery, from the selection and preparation of the raw materials to the final product (Balfet 1975; Cresswell 2010)), as well as to the classification of ceramic assemblages based on the chaine operatoire approach. Practicals involve applying the technological approach to archaeological assemblages and conducting various experiments to better understand the different steps involved in the pottery making process. Students will be asked to prepare key readings in order to be able to discuss and debate during the class. Students will also be asked to prepare a small project on pottery making (using experimental archaeology or archaeological pottery collections) during the semester. Projects will be evaluated at the end of the semester (oral and written examinations).

    9詮釋考古陶器的原料(課程2/4):描述成形和完形技術。 本周目標聚焦於如何詮釋考古陶器上的製作痕跡。這些是什麼痕跡?各自代表什麼意義?決定性痕跡是什麼?如何詮釋以及在實驗數據中使用民族考古學?請學生嘗試運用所學,描述每個考古陶器的樣本、痕跡的形成(例如塑造和完形階段),及製作過程中涉及哪些技術和工具?
    10詮釋考古陶器的原料(課程3/4):從痕跡和技術。
    11詮釋考古陶器的原料(課程4/4):陶器表面處理和裝飾。 分類陶器碎片和大小:學習如何透過建立的標準描述和分類陶器碎片及大小,同時解決陶器形式和功能的連結。
    12繪製考古陶器:學習如何繪製陶器、如何使用輪廓儀和卡尺,如何測量直徑和如何繪製陶器輪廓及裝飾。
    13以「操作鍊」的概念分類陶器:觀察和詮釋痕跡時,學習根據「操作鍊」方法對各種陶器進行分類,以及分類具有相同技術或特徵的陶器。
    14紀錄陶器數據:學習如何建立符合自身研究目的的數據庫、數據庫模型和表格。
    15考古陶器分類實地練習:練習以操作鍊方法描述並分類陶器碎片(少量)。
    16其餘陶器分析方法簡介
    17期末報告:口頭報告和討論。每位同學均需上台報告。
    18修改和提問。另外,簡短的介紹緬甸的田野工作。每位同學均須提交期末書面報告。
