課程概述 Course Description

「合成生物學」意指將基因編程到達成任務的過程,基因元件以生物磚(Biobrick)為單元,以電腦或計算機等工具設計程式,結合實驗組裝元件使細胞進行一系列的工作,合成生物學可以由Biobrick從零開始來創造基因組,產生全新的結果。在《創新2050:科學技術的未來》報告指出:「合成生物學是未來革命性突破的4個基本學科之一」。為合成生物學推廣和研究,應從大學生開始做起。美國麻省理工學院在2004年發起了International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition (iGEM)競賽,已經在歐美先進國家引起學術到業界的輻射效應。 本課程是成大iGEM隊伍出賽美國的訓練課程。自每年上學期11月底返國後招募新生,12月底確定隊員人選,在寒假進行訓練,分別有實驗組 (Wet),硬體及軟體組 (Dry)及推廣教育組 (HP)三組的小組訓練。下學期課程有4周的頭腦風暴 (Brainstorming),每位同學以分組方式,尋求合適的議題、設計解決的方法、規劃完整的藍圖,經由辯論後投票三個候選題目。在三月底以全校發表會方式決定最終出賽題目。接著4月到6月完成初步實驗數據、也組織不同的活動、參訪,加強與大眾溝通及推廣的責任及效果。7到9月是每周的進度報告、每月的成果報告。也在iGEM比賽的wiki frozen前,將所有資料上傳官方網址,完整地呈現成果。 經由本課程的訓練及教育,同學充分地學會跨領域的分工合作精神,而且具備有良好的國際視野及英語能力,最重要是有建立了同學挑戰困難、堅持到底及充滿鬥志的人生格局。
Synthetic biology is meaning a process of programming genes to obtain a new solution by cell life in the future. The basic component is “Biobrick” which can be assembly by different technologies including computer science, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, biological and medicine science, and start up from zero to a novel result. The report "Innovation 2050: The Future of Science and Technology" states: Synthetic biology is one of the four fundamental disciplines for future revolutionary breakthroughs. To promote the study of synthetic biology, we startup iGEM team in our university since 2015. Actually, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology launched the International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition (iGEM) competition in 2004, which has caused academic-to-industry radiation effects in advanced countries in Europe and America. This is a training course for the iGEM team to prepare and accomplish the project before go to iGEM Jamboree in United States. WE recruit freshmen after return from Giant Jamboree at the end of November every year. The next team members and advisor will finish the team building in the winter vacation. Three parts are including in the training, i.e., experiments for Wet team; wiki, hardware and software design for Dry, and the education and human practice for HP group. In new semester, we have 4 weeks of Brainstorming. Each student need to find the tentative topic; design a solution, show up a complete blueprint in this period. We vote for three selective topics by debating. We decide the final topic after presentation to all students in NCKU at the end of March. The preliminary experimental progress, prototype of hardware and software, and different activities or visiting expertise will organize from April to June. We also have weekly progress report and monthly report from July to September in this course. Before the iGEM wiki frozen, all the materials will be uploaded to the official website and show up what we have done in the whole project. Through the education in this course, students must be fully improved the skills in English, and also well-trained in multidisciplinary vision and mission. The most important thing is to teach students how to face difficulties, persist in the end and are full of fighting spirit in their life.
