課程概述 Course Description

本課程擬於一月份帶領修課學生意同在緬甸參與密集陶器分析培訓,除了分析大量發掘出土的陶片,亦定期參訪發掘現場,並與發掘團隊成員進行討論,了解遺址及其層位,並進一步對陶器進行的分析提供建設性的反饋意見。 此次主要發掘遺址為一個可追溯至公元前二十世紀的大型定居點,包含與孟加拉灣和南中國海的社群進行長距離接觸。 陶器分析技法由Valentine Roux和Marie-Agnes Courty兩位教授發展而來,基於民族學研究,這些研究顯示出經社會傳承而來的技術方法。技術分析的重點為製陶者的技術、手法和使用的工具。 本課程將提供學生參與學習陶器分析,由遺址出土至典藏一系列操作,待課程結束後,修課學需準備口頭分析報告及報告撰寫,並上台分享給參與的團體。
This course proposes an intensive training in pottery analysis on the field in Myanmar (in January). Students will participate to the analysis of the huge quantity of pottery fragments uncovered from the excavation. Students will also visit the excavation regularly to discuss with the excavation team members, understand the site and its stratigraphy, and provide constructive feedback on the analysis they are conducting on pottery. The main site excavated is a large settlement dated from the last centuries BC and involved in long distance contacts with communities from the Bay of Bengal and from the South China Sea. The approach taught for the analysis of pottery was developed by Dr. Valentine Roux and Dr. Marie-Agnes Courty. It is based on ethnographic studies that have shown that ways of doing and techniques are socially inherited. Technological analysis focuses on techniques, ways of doing and tools used by the potters. Students are expected to take part to the analysis of pottery from the moment pottery sherds are uncovered on the site to the moment sherds are sent to the storage. At the end of the project, students will be asked to present their work to the team members and to write a report.

    11/1(三). Travel day. Train from Tainan to Kaohsiung - Flying from Taipei (Taiwan) to Yangon (Myanmar) 1/2(四). Travel day. Taking a bus from Yangon to reach the site (near Maliwan) – Preparing the house and workplace.
    21/3(五). 7:00-12:00 / 14:00-17:00. Visiting the archaeological site of Maliwan – Introduction to the site and previous excavations - Discussions. 1/4(六). 7:00-12:00 / 14:00-17:00. Collecting the archaeological collections from the storage - Pottery analysis. 1/4(六). 18:00-19:00. Presentation of the site by Bérénice Bellina, head of the French archaeological mission in Peninsular Thailand and Myanmar (French National Center for Scientific Research).
    31/6(一)to 1/22(三). 7:00-12:00 / 14:00-17:00 (except on Sundays). Pottery analysis.
    41/23(四). Travel day. Flying from Maliwan to Yangon – Have a rest in Yangon. 1/24(五). Travel day. Flying from Yangon (Myanmar) to Kaohsiung (Taiwan) – Train from Kaohsiung to Tainan.
