課程概述 Course Description
文學與文化研究Though cultural studies is an interdisciplinary approach that is mainly concerned with the role of social institutions in the shaping of culture, nowadays it has broad influence and application in sociology, anthropology, historiography, literary criticism, philosophy, and art criticism after it spread internationally (notably to the United States and Australia) from its birthplace in Britain in the late 1950s. Given the complex development and broad application of cultural studies, this course aims to focus on the close reading of literary/theoretical texts and their adaptations and/or appropriations in other pop cultural genres (e.g. films and TV drama). In addition, this course intends to introduce to the students the major theoretical methodologies (e.g. semiotics and feminism) frequently appropriated to examine the issues of race, gender, and class as manifested in those literary/cultural texts.
