Course Description

“Civilization” is a word originated from the Latin 'Civitas', refering to the city and the citizenship. It was used by the Romans who differentiated themselves from the other “Barbarians”. The early anthropologists and archaeologists thought civilization is an important stage of cultural history of mankind. This course will explore the definition of civilization and the archaeological evidence of the rise and fall of ancient civilizations in Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, Central America, and Southern America.
