課程概述 Course Description

“文明”是古代希臘城邦社會指涉自身文化,並藉以區別周邊“野蠻”社會的一個詞彙。早期人類學者及考古學者認為文明是文類文化史中一個重要的階段,史前人類從小規模的採集狩獵社會,逐步演化成複雜的文明社會,其中的過程與原因值得我們深入探討。本課程從考古學的角度認識“文明”的定義,並從考古證據檢視西亞、埃及、印度、中國、中美洲和南美洲等地區史前文明的起源和消亡。
“Civilization” is a word originated from the ancient Greek. It was used by the ancient Greeks of city states who differentiated themselves from the other “Barbarians”. The early anthropologists and archaeologists thought civilization is an important stage of cultural history of mankind. This course will explore the definition of civilization and the archaeological evidence of the rise and fall of ancient civilizations in Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, Central America, and Southern America.
