課程概述 Course Description
This course is intended for junior graduate students to help them refine their scientific reasoning skills in conjunction with their skills of scientific communication in an English academic environment. Research material used in the course will be selected by the students and relevant to their individual research projects. In the first part of the course students will select a published research article most relevant to their own research project and explain the principal biomedical processes being reported on in that paper. Students will write brief reports on an issue, of their choice, taken from the research articles; the emphasis of these reports being the adequate explanation of the chosen issue. The critical thinking skills refined in the first part of this course are elaborated on in the second part of the course where students will generate a research proposal draft of their own research projects focusing on the essential elements of important sections that comprise a classic research proposal. Detailed feedback on students’ writing assignments and oral presentations is provided throughout the course so students can actively improve their writing and presenting skills. This course is intended for junior graduate students to help them refine their scientific reasoning skills in conjunction with their skills of scientific communication in an English academic environment.
