課程概述 Course Description

選讀當代小說
This course examines contemporary British novels that are produced in the post-World War II era. As the range of contemporary British fiction is extremely broad and varied and impossible to cover in one semester, we will have a particular focus on London as a literary setting in a selection of novels. While looking at the narration and imagination of London as a postmodern, postcolonial, global, and migrant city, we will consider the socio-cultural and historical context in which these novels are produced, and discuss the following issues: 1) urbanity, modernity, and postmodernity; and 2) place, politics, and identity. We will read these novels alongside critical-theoretical works related to the issues of inquiry mentioned above.
