Course Description

This course is designed for students interested in the vibrant, interdisciplinary field of affect studies. The class will examine the “affective turn” across the humanities since the nineteen nineties, evaluate the new trajectories and their claims or ambitions, and revisit “passionate” narratives without hastily categorizing them with established political frames. Students will be asked to share a book, a film, or an art project that provides productive avenues to understanding affect, which evoke questions about how its subject has been fixed on specific time, place, and value.
