課程概述 Course Description

This course provides a broad overview to the field of health economics with direct applications to current health policy issues by reading selected empirical papers. Health economics is a field which uses economic tools to study how decisions about health and medical care are made in a health care system, and analyze resources allocation in a market with insurance. This course will be held in two forms: one week of lecture and one week of seminar so that the doctoral students enrolled in the class can have active participation in learning through oral presentation of related research. The main topics covered in this course include: (1) theory of consumer demand and producer behavior; (2) concept of uncertainty, adverse selection, and moral hazard in the health economy; (3) the demand and supply of health insurance and compare major health care systems; (4) key players in the health care sector and the role of government regulation on health care provision.
