課程概述 Course Description

世界小說專題研究
This course studies contemporary Anglophone fiction/film to explore the cultural impacts of globalization. To begin with, we will assess whether globalization inevitably leads to the erosion of cultural differences, producing thereby a global culture of homogeneity. We will then identify the cultural logic of globalization before we move on to speculate on how to construct an ethics for the era of globalization. An additional, and equally important, objective of this course is to expose students to a wide range of texts (novels and films) produced by Anglophone writers and directors. Students will give one or two oral presentations and submit one midterm paper (3-4 pages long) and one term paper (6-8 pages long).
