課程概述 Course Description

This course is intended for first year graduate students to help them develop their scientific reasoning skills in conjunction with basic skills of scientific communication in an English academic environment. In the first half of the course, an example of problem-based learning and student-selected papers help students integrate cardiac, vascular, and pulmonary medicine knowledge, learn to reason physiological principles, and present this knowledge both in written (abstracts & summarizing paragraphs) and oral forms (discussions & scientific presentations). In the second half of the course students will edit classmates’ proposal paragraphs and work on their own presentation of what they intend to research for their graduate project. A significant focus will be on justifying their research question, once again stressing deductive reasoning. Detailed feedback on students’ writing assignments and oral presentations is provided throughout the course. At the end of the course, students will have generated a paragraph and given a presentation of their proposed research in lieu of their final exam.
