ART AND THE SENSES

The senses are a vital source of knowledge for us to understand the world. Each sense is unique, in terms of subjective feelings and regarding the array of information that it yields, yet each sense interacts with the others to produce experiences that cannot be replicated by only a single sense. Our sensory perception reflects our personal history, our culture and the way that our brain has learned to combine sensory inputs. This class focuses on the relationship between art and the various senses. We will start with the body senses, looking at the relationship between vision and art, audition and music, touch and sculpture, dance and senses as well as exploring the multisensory interactions between the senses.
