COMPUTATIONAL HYDRAULICS

This course is devoted to the fundamentals for numerically solving the hydraulic problems. Since the governing equations yield a time-dependent non-linear system, there are numbers of challenges when we are attempting to calculate the solutions numerically. This course includes the introduction of hyperbolic systems of conservation laws, the basic concepts of discretization as well as the numerical treatments of physical phenomena such as hydraulic jumps and conservation of physical quantities. The main goal is to improve the capability of the students in handling the commercial/academic software packages, in which the shallow-water-like equation systems are employed.
