MEDICAL TAIWANESE (INTERMEDIATE)

This course is designed for students who (1) have the basic proficiency in Taiwanese (able to express him/herself in Taiwanese and understand Taiwanese utterances) but have few chances of using the language; (2) need to use Taiwanese to communicate with patients or medical professionals in the future; (3) want to have a better understanding about doctor-patient communication. The goals of this course are to (1) enhance students listening comprehension; (2) encourage students to speak Taiwanese in their daily life; (3) help students be familiar with laymen and professional expressions related to health and medicine; (4) learn health education skills when communicating with the elderly people; (5) learn Taiwanese romanization system. To create a whole Taiwanese environment, the course is conducted in Taiwanese. Students are encouraged to think and to express themselves in Taiwanese. Students oral participation takes up 60-70% of the class activities.
