INTRODUCTION TO CRYSTALLOGRAPHY AND DIFFRACTION

The crystal structure of a material affects its physical and chemical properties. Therefore, the crystal structure of a material determines the feasibility of its practical application. X-rays and electrons incident on different crystal structures will produce different diffraction patterns, and then identify the crystal structure of the material. This course will systematically introduce the symmetry of the crystal structure and its derived space groups, and train students to reduce complex 3D crystal structures to 2D plane projections, so that students can better understand the crystal structure of materials.
