ENGLISH EMPOWERMENT THROUGH COMMUNITY SERVICE

This course aims to recruit local and international students with good English proficiency to design English learning camps for children of remote areas. The course will first teach NCKU students some principles of foreign language teaching and learning, techniques of planning and conducting language learning activities, such as story-telling and reader’s theater, and theories of group learning. The NCKU students will then work in small groups to develop teaching activities and materials for young learners. The goal is to provide four times of community service to children and adolescents in Gong-guan village of Zuo-Zhen District, Tainan. The NCKU students are expected to improve their English communication ability, sense of team work, and leadership in conducting group activities for children. In the fourth service, the class will join with a group of students from Hong Kong Polytech University to conduct the activities together.
