COLLEGE CHINESE-READINGS IN CLASSICAL CHINESE FICTION & FOLK CULTURE

This module aims at promoting students’ ability in reading classical Chinese fiction and vernacular stories. It introduces students to important writers and works, genres, and other literary elements in classic Chinese fiction, especially stories that feature “mysterious occurrence and the Other World”. This course examines the portrayal of figures living on the social margins, and across the fault lines of class, politics, religion, times, and folk culture.
